Useless August 19, 2008 This is product is utterly useless. It fails as a sound dock, it fails to add any functionality to the Clix, and it fails as a paperweight. I wish I could get my money back.
iriver 7clixcrd Cradle fir Clix Gen2 August 17, 2008 iriver 7CLIxCRD Cradle for Clix Gen2 This cradle design is unique which is what caught my in the first place. It is well made, However, after receiving it, I have found that functionally, it does not do much. In fact, you cannot attach AC power (power pack not included) and an external speaker system simultaneously. This was the main reason I bought it. The mono speaker at the base has mediocre audio quality at best. A major disappointment. I do not recommend it.
Most useful to keep your unit vertical rather than flat when connected to PC June 21, 2008 First off the speakers absolutely suck big time. No bass or depth coming out of them. Think of the sound that a homemade Radio Shack-project type radio would make if you built one yourself. So if you're buying it for the speaker, fuhgetaboutit.
Despite this, I do like that fact that it allows me to keep the unit vertical rather than laying on my desk while it's connected to my PC for downloading/charging. Keeps me from damaging it by putting other stuff on top of it. The thing is though, the text on the screen is best read with the unit horizontal so you have to bend your head to read what's on the screen when it's in the cradle.
Overall, I don't think it's worth the price. If I had to do it over again I would not have bought it unless it was like $10 or something, because that's what it's worth.
Pretty much worthless April 18, 2008 While I love iRiver's Clix Gen2 player, this companion product is essentially worthless.
I bought it based on the expectation that it adds a true line out option for the player. It does not; It only adds a pass-through for the stereo mini-jack. The speaker is useful in a pinch, but only in a quiet environment...maybe for listening to sporting events, talk radio or podcasts. The one thing it does well is act as a cradle for watching videos. But none of its features justify the asking price.
Underpowered & Unimpressed February 26, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought the cradle for my Clix thinking that it would serve as a great mobile speaker system and let me share my podcasts with small groups. Unfortunately, it became painfully clear that this would not be the case. On maximum volume, sitting 2 feet away from the speaker, I can barely hear the audio, let alone enjoy it. There is absolutely no low end or bass, and the high end that does come through (voice) is weak and difficult to make out unless in a quiet environment.
Don't purchase for portable speakers; it's only value comes from keeping your Clix from laying down on the table.
