Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Whether used to block out sound while on an aircraft or to create a tranquil environment so you can enjoy your favorite CD track, these new headphones are up to the challenge. The new RP-HC500 noise canceling headphones are designed to reduce background noise by creating out-of-phase sounds that equal the background noise to effectively cancel it. Additionally, the headphones reduce low frequencies such as the drone of a plane's engine or a loud air conditioning unit. The noise-canceling feature can also be switched off to allow the user to converse or to reduce background noise by virtue of the headphone's comfortable insulated housing. Includes carrying pouch and plug adapter for airplane Suitable for MP3 and iPod players

3 out of 5 stars Another comparison with the Audio Technica ATH-ANC7   January 8, 2009
My co-worker who sits next to me just got these headphones. Since I own the Audio Technica's, I was curious to do a comparison.

Things I noticed about the Panasonic:
- More comfortable than the Audio Technicas. Earpads feel softer.
- More emphasis on bass than the Audio Technicas.

Since the price of the Panasonic vs. Audio Technica is about the same, I think the decision of which one to get depends on your preference. If you listen to bass-heavy music, you will probably be more satisfied with the Panasonic. If you listen to more balanced music where getting detail across the entire frequency range is important, I'd recommend the Audio Technicas.

1 out of 5 stars Bite the bullet, buy Bose   January 7, 2009
I know Bose is awesome, but I just couldn't comprehend spending the kind of money they required. However, I rarely travel anywhere without music, and so I didn't want to go cheap. I was considering all the leading competition, but finally settled on these. That was a mistake.

My first issue - there is considerable sound leakage. I like my music loud, but I respect others around me enough to feel uncomfortable if they can hear my music as if they had the headphones on themselves. To top it off, the noise cancelling mechanism more than doubles the leakage!

Second issue - My ears popped every time I put these on. The air pressure literally cuts out half your hearing (well maybe not half), but this is probably why they can boast 92% noise cancellation. This makes it harder to hear the music as well.

Third issue - Ultimately, I had to return them, because the noise cancellation feature produced a loud ringing in the left ear cup. Unacceptable!

All I can say is buy Bose. The sound is infinitely better without all the issues I've encountered with this product. The good thing is, Amazon understood and refunded me the full price ASAP.

5 out of 5 stars Great deal   January 6, 2009
Very impressed with both Amazon and the headphones; they performed perfectly and the reviews on the product were dead on, which is what sealed the deal initially.
The headphones were for my wife, for travel; she is very fussy and she loved them. She did leave them on the plane after the second trip but that was expected, after 10 or so trips, but the price was right. I will buy another set when the price comes down a little; it has gone up some, since I purchased them.

5 out of 5 stars Great Buy   January 6, 2009
This product is all that it states and more. It is lightweight, comfortable, has a detachable cord (if it shorts out, you can just buy another cord), and the sound is incredible. The NC works well.

4 out of 5 stars Great Quality but watch the batteries   January 4, 2009
Great quality. You should not be disappointed. My only downside is the battery you put in the headset. If you fall asleep, as I do, while listening to cd's without turning off the headphone you will have to replace the AAA battery often. Other than that I am very happy.
