Best Shower Radio I've Found November 20, 2008 I have owned two of the Sony shower radios and they have each lasted about a year and a half before water starts to seep in and corrodes the batteries or wrecks the radio. Until now, all the alternatives were cheapo products that got terrible reviews and looked like they wouldn't last. This Sangean radio is way above the others in quality. It is meant to be a marine radio and says it is waterproof and floats, although I have tried using it as a bathtub toy. The radio is about twice the size of the Sony, but is very solidly built and easy to operate. The reception is also better than the Sony. I can pick up AM stations that would have nothing but static with the Sony and FM stations are very clear. My wife and son have commented on the superior sound quality as well and I agree.
superior radio November 7, 2008 Solidly built, excellent battery life, great sound.
It even has an accurate clock! The best shower radio I've owned.
Excellent battery life November 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this radio 6 months ago to replace a broken Sharper Image shower radio we had been using for several years. The sound quality and FM reception are comparable, or better, then the SI unit.
The biggest surprise to me though is the battery life. Between me and my wife we listen to this radio 40-50 minutes a day (we listen while we're getting ready, not just while in the shower). The SI radio took 4 C size batteries and would last maybe two months before needing replacements. This radio, which takes 2 D size batteries, has been in use for 6 months and just yesterday lost the first bar off of the 3 bar power meter. That is fantastic! One of the things I hated about the old radio was how frequently I had to replace the batteries. At this rate I'll only have to replace the batteries in this one once a year.
In addition to the battery life I also like the large display and the fact that it displays the time even when the radio is off. (my old one only displayed the time when the radio was off, which was annoying)
Anyway I think is a great product and I highly recommend it.
Best Shower Radio I've Ever Had November 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The reception is great. It can pick up distant FM stations from 90 miles away that other radios in the house can't receive. The sound quality is decent, though it may lack adequate bass response for some groove-dependent listeners. Classical music and talk sound just fine, but if you like to get down to Parliament/Funkadelic as you're lathering in the morning, you may be underwhelmed. The batteries are rated for extended usage, and after a month of daily use, they're still going strong. I haven't found a need for the flashlight yet, though I'm sure this will come in handy during the next power outage.
Broke easily November 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had this over a year, but it is already broken. I went to flip open the battery door on the back and the hinge piece broke. The battery door can no longer close, which no longer makes it ideal for the shower, and it would also be awkward to hang this thing on my shower curtain rod with the back open. The hinge piece is too small to glue back on. When I moved into my sister's basement to help her out, I also struggled to get my radio stations to come through.
