 Beware! June 27, 2008
I bought this unit (twice) because it had the feature set I wanted and good reviews. And it almost lives up to the reviews - while it actually works. Both units conked out after a few months. When I called iriver about that one year warranty, they informed me that they honor it only when the unit was purchased from them, or one of their exceedingly rare authorized U.S. dealers. iRiver has the worst customer service I have ever experienced, as others have pointed out.
The first unit I bought had an FM radio that received only one station. The second would not advance audiobooks by chapter as it was supposed to have, but the radio worked well. My last debaucle was that Audible could no longer recognize the unit, though it had previously. I believe it is because I used a charging cable other than the one that came in the box with the Clix2. I think. What a drag.
If this unit worked, it would be the best. The sound is clear, the click system great, and the screen has the brightest and sharpest pictures I have seen. I have had a Sansa and a Zen V and, when this thing actually worked, it blew them both away. But I would never, never recommend it to anyone.

Overall this is a great product. If you don't like the limitation of iTunes and all the copywrite one computer issues of an iPod, this is a great alternative. All of the extras and custom settings are excellent. Sound is good, buy some new quality head phones for a real boost in quality sound. Easy to use and the controls are fun.
My only complaint is the battery life. I've had an iRiver iHP 120 for years now, and the battery life is excellent. I still get at least 12-14 hours on a single charge. My new 8GB clix doesn't seem to last more that 4-5. I never keep it playing for more that an hour at a time, but it seems I have to charge it every few days. Maybe I need to tweek the settings or something, but the constant dead battery is getting frustrating.
Overall, a great product. I don't know why anyone would suffer through the limitations of an iPod, with a quality alternative like this is available.

This is definitely a sold mp3 player if your looking to stay away from the dominant ipod. I read all about this unit before getting it about 2 weeks ago.
The face, as most people have said is oddly lose and feels flimsy.. but it's definitely not, i tried shifting it and it is pretty solid, it's just the nature of the controls that make it seem flimsy.
I've accidentally put it too the drop test three times on my floor, and my daughter dropped it on the concrete once. So far its perfectly fine.
Sound is awesome. The basic sound is good, the custom EQ is good enough, but what I truly enjoy is the SRS WOW technology on this unit, it enhances the sound considerably. It's bad on some songs, but those are lower quality MP3's. I never turn the SRS off, i just make adjustments depending if I know its a crappier quality song. Before disposing the OEM headphones, which are not that great but do look sharp, use the SRS EQ and you'll boost their performance. I hook it up to my car and main house system and its sweet. We have 3 ipods, and a nano, this thing is better, and just sounds nicer, especially with the SRS stuff. I will say my only dislike about the SRS settings is i can't figure out how to get the best bass quality when its on. The bass sounds better with SRS technology off, so far. But, all in all the SRS features are a BIG perk on this player and what compelled me to get this since MP3 players are driven by the sound.
Video is impressive. The image is very vivid even on the most dim setting, the light intensity is darn good. Mini-cartoons and movies are pretty solid. Pictures are very nice on this unit as well.
USB connection is cool, nothing is hidden, its all structure(files, folders) very well. I can move any files I want without having to do tricks like you do with the IPod's. Firmware updates are easy, I did two already.
Flash. This thing is awesome, it plays various flash lite games, and movies. So far, I've found 50 different games online. You just have to google clix 2 games, and you just copy the files over.
Radio Tuner. It's great, does pretuning for you to find all the stations in your area. There are 30 channels which you can save so thats a good feature. You can record and play back, neat feature doubtful i'll ever use it though.
Alarm, standard alarm works good.
Voice recording is a cool extra used it a few times on the road.
Hold button comes in super handy when running or when its in your pocket, it's definitely a must on this unit.
Txt reader, comes in handy if you need to copy school notes, or presentation notes. I found a cool tool that converts Power Point Presentations to flash, so you can carry around your presenation with you on it.
Fonts, you can customize all the fonts by installing your own fonts directly from the windows font folder, or what you download.
Themes, you can change the interface by downloading various themes online, or making your own if you know how to build in flash. There is even a neat IPod interface if your so in love with it.
All the tweakable options are neat for your tweakers. I hate itunes, and all those media players, I'm a winamp guy, so the EASY of loading my mp3's is super easy. I don't need a commercial main stream player to do the work for me.
Controls take some getting used to from the pretty dominant ipod style controls. But, after a day or two anyone will find it very simple and neat. It's definitely the black sheep of controls.
I saw one guys comments on bad jack, but mine is flawless. Maybe he didn't push it in all the way? I use it to go running, and plug it in the car, the jack is solid.
I think all in all, if your looking for something different from everyone else, with lots of options you've found yourself a good deal. If your looking to stand out, this one stands out strong.
