3 out of 5 stars Average Quality and Sound   December 3, 2008
I had been using clip-on headphones for months because my iPod earphones were just too big. Frustrated with the lack of sound isolation and quality, I decided to look for a pair of earbuds. I spent weeks trying to find a pair that consistently received good reviews. However, that magic pair just wasn't to be found for under $100. I decided to go with a cheaper pair in the $30 price range. If they turned out to be subpar, at least I didn't waste a lot of money on them.

I choose the V-Moda Bass Freq headphones primarily because of their 2006 CNET Editor's Choice Award. CNET is known to be a reliable source. I bought them for $29.99 from TigerDirect.

Pros:
--Decent sound isolation for not actually using noise-cancellation technology
--Excellent bass
--Well-designed. Their casing is even smaller than the iPod earphones and the chord seems sturdy

Cons:
--I found the small-seized silicone covers to still be a bit big
--They do not register quieter sounds very well. For example, I was listening to "We Are the Champions" and the verses kept fading in and out.
--Difficult to find a good EQ setting. I am still working with my iPod to find a good mix given the natural bass focus of the earbuds
--There was background buzzing when I plugged them into my laptop. I am not entirely sure this is a problem with the buds themselves, but it was certainly annoying

I am going to use my V-Moda Bass Freq headphones daily. However, if I hadn't been able to use a $25 gift card toward their purchase, I would be frustrated that I spent $30 on a product with so many cons.

1 out of 5 stars Stopped Working in Two Months   December 3, 2008
They were ok - not great - for the two months that they worked, but then one of the buds stopped working. So, obviously, they're now useless to me.

3 out of 5 stars comfy but not sturdy   December 3, 2008
I got these headphones because all my other earbuds seemed to have a short life, and these got a good review on CNET reviews. They are so far very comfortable with good sound, but one of the earbuds has been coming apart after only using them a few days. It's easy to snap the pieces back together, but I wonder how long these will be functional for.

4 out of 5 stars Great but break easily   December 3, 2008
These earbuds are probably one of the best I've ever used. They sound great, and isolate sound well. The only problem I had was them breaking. I keep my mp3 in my pocket all day and the ear end of the bud came off. This can be popped on easily, but eventually the wire broke off and were rendered useless.

So, these are great if you plan on treating them carefully.

1 out of 5 stars Avoid these headphones   December 2, 2008
These headphones perfectly recreate the sound of music playing through a dorm room wall. If you like that sound, you'll love these headphones. How do these headphones achieve "bass"? By cutting the treble and midrange to muffled insignificance. Also, you'll enjoy the crinkly saran wrap sound of the speaker diaphragm going back and forth as you insert them in your ear.
