 Great Design, Lousy Build Quality July 12, 2008
The first unit I got stopped powering up after two days even when plugged in so it wasn't a low battery problem. Amazon was great about sending a replacement by overnight courier, but the second unit had a faulty output plug. It made a high whistling noise every time the plug was jostled even slightly - a bad feature in a portable unit. This time I returned it for a refund.
The design is great. Easy to use interface with an ipod style wheel. Easy to connect with PC and transfer files.
Sound quality is mediocre. You are losing detail on music. Quality was clearly worse than my in car OEM head unit.

This is my third Sansa player. I wanted one that would carry a lot of music, some podcasts, and books from Audible. This little jewel does it all and does it well. I have added an 8 Gb MicroSDHC card for a total of 12 Gb of storage. I have literally had no problems with the Fuze. It handles video and photos very after processing with Sansa Converter software which comes with it.
There is one minor issue, the playlists are limited to 200 (I think) songs. I work around this by copying the songs I want in my Favorites playlist into a separate directory on my computer, and change their Genre to "!Favorite" with Windows Media Player. And then I can select them by Genre, instead of by Playlist, and they are sorted to the top of the Genre list.
Recommendation: Buy one!
I have several hundred videos in my collection and have been looking for a small device to carry the list around with me. Turns out the Fuze can do it! I create a form with the necessary info for each video in MS Access, and out put it as a PDF file. Then I use Adobe Acrobat to out put the pages as JPGs. Sansa Converter makes the JPGs the right size and loaded onto the Fuze in a directory I call Video. I call up the photo menu, go into the Video list, and there are JPG note cards for every Video. Now, I know if I have a special Edition DVD or just a pan-and-scan VHS off TV.
